Where else can anyone enjoy a game of cards in the scourging heat of summer? The density of buildings in downtown Nanjing even add up to the poor circulation of cool air in the residential areas, hence people are drawn out of their houses to the parks and street promenades to get away from the heat. Older people mostly get together in the promenades and enjoy each others' company while shuffling cards for the aces, the kings, the queens and the jacks; and tried to out do each other for a real good laugh.
