The Dong Storm-Tossed Bridges
Most Dong villages of northern Guangxi are accessed through an elaborate wooden bridges otherwise known as the storm-tossed bridges. The passageways have either three, four or five pavilions and have roofs that are either rectangular or hexagonal spires with two to five layers of eaves on them. One interesting bridge is found in the town of Ba Tuan because it is double decked. The upper deck of the bridge is used by people while the lower deck is for animals. These bridges don't only serve as passageways but more so as a functional facility for socialization and festivities. It is in these bridges that the village welcome their guests with songs. To the Dong nationality, the bridges are expressions of cordiality, harmony, simplicity and grace.
