Eastern Coastal Region Shelters

The eastern coastal region of Jiangsu Province stretches from Lianyungang from the north moving south to Yancheng and Nantong and the adjacent municipalities of Wuxi and Suzhou which are very close to Shanghai. Along this stretch are marshlands, river villages, lakes and plains. The pictures above are contemporary modifications of the black and red brick houses typical of the old Han dwellings. Today, houses made of cement and painted either with earth or neon colors are a common sight in the countryside in contrast with the monochromatic structures that still exist in the preserved river villages of Zhouzhuang and Tongli. The photos were taken from the closed windows of a bus travelling at 120 km/hr so you'll find them kind of blurry.
